Employment Disputes

With Your Legal GP

Ideally in an employer-employee relationship employers must provide a safe working environment, training for staff where appropriate, risk assessments, employee consultations and have regard for staff welfare. Employees are required work honestly and diligently, cooperate with management and fellow staff, take reasonable care for their own health and safety, follow legal instructions, complete tasks and maintain confidentiality.

Common Employment Disputes

  • Workplace conditions: Employment conditions at work being influenced by the employer's conduct resulting in making working conditions intolerable such as unfair treatment or gender discrimination
  • Rights and duties: Your rights and your duties in the course of your employment, for example the right not to be harassed in the workplace or your duty to carry out your duties in accordance with the expected standard
  • Unfair dismissal: Termination of contract and/or unfair dismissal where there was no fair reason for dismissal, or the reason to dismiss was either not justified or procedurally unfair
  • Contract changes: Changes in contract without agreement that result in a significant departure from the employee's original contracted duties

Wherever possible, disputes should be resolved by communication, negotiation or mediation before resorting to court. Your Legal GP can help you consider how you approach any incident involving an Employment Dispute claim.
